When we consider how hostile the world is to Christ, how the builders world-wide are rejecting Him, and how worldly wise men who do not believe the Bible are controlling the education of our children, it is wonder that the church can even exist in the world. Even though all nations reject Him, the good news is that God has chosen Him. This is the day Jehovah has made; we will rejoice in it and be glad. What day is this? The word day is often used in scripture as a period of time, long or short. In the King James version it has been rendered by such words as day, time, age, season, space, year and many others.
Thus ,we need not think just of a 24 hour period, but of an age or epoch. The context shows that the psalmist is thinking of the Christian age of the world and God's new temple of worship, of which Christ as the chief cornerstone.
The meaning is that God has ordained the day or age of Christ's reign on earth as a time of blessing to all mankind. Christ is reigning on earth now and has been for two thousand years. He will not reign on earth at His second coming. At that time all the saved of earth will be taken to heaven. Everyone should rejoice in the Christian Age of the world, for Palm reveals that this Church Age is the day that the Lord God has made. This present day the Lord has made is the greatest period or age in human history.
Today and every day for the past two thousand years, it has been the day of Christ, the gospel day, the day of the Christian religion, and the day of the Kingdom of God on the earth. We are living in the very day Psalm predicted. It is the accepted time for the human race. The day the Lord has made is a day or period of time in which God is in the accepting business. He is accepting all sinners humble enough to be washed by the blood of the Lamb. He then ascended to heaven, and ten days later He established the Christian religion on the earth.

And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved. You see, Jesus came to earth to create a new Israel, a people who are true children of Abraham, by faith and not by flesh. He has called them and commissioned them to be about his work of making disciples who make disciples. So here is the question for us today: Who is our authority? Who or what do we fear? Is it ultimately God, or is it something else? What are we working for and are we producing the fruit that God wants?
The leaders of Israel feared the people. Their god was their control and power. This is what they could not live without. This was their true authority and ultimate trust. Even when Jesus confronted them with this parable, it only galvanized them in their hatred of him. For he represented a loss of their power and control. He was demanding to be first place in everything, that he would have preeminence in all things.
And they would have none of it. The reality is that we all have these types of idols. The question is what happens when the Holy Spirit confronts us with them? Are we willing to give them up? Are we willing to turn from them, repent of them and give our lives to God in worship and true spiritual service?
